'Smile Pinki' wins oscar short documentary award

Ms.Megan is the name of the director of this documentary. And yes, you guessed it right, she is not an Indian either, just like Danny Boyle is NOT. The documentary is about a little girl, pinki ,who was born with a congenital defect (birth defect) of cleft lip (and / cleft palate? too) and how the 'Operation smile project' made it possible for her to avail free surgical services and thus get operated and how this small simple surgery that corrected her facial malformation completed changed her life forever.

I personally haven't had a chance to watch this documentary ,though ofcourse, i do hope that at least doordarshan manages to showcase this documentary.Afterall ,DD is the only hope for documentary movie buffs like me.Oh yeah, NDTV also has a documentary showcase at 9:30pm on most weekdays if i am right.

Pinki was at the redcarpet in LA at the oscars along with the doctor that operated upon her.She was all smiles and such. What was really unnecessary was what CNN IBN(cable tv channel) did. They brought lil pinki and the doc to the studio and bored pinki with stupid questions about the shoot and about megan"aunt" and for most part pinki didn't quite get what all the fuss was about her getting a surgery and finally she got so tired of the reporter asking her stupid questions just to fill up tv time that she pretty much walked out of the set..LOL..Children do the dardnest things, don't they?

Yes, inviting the doc to the studio was a great way to let other people know about this wonderful project that provides free surgical services to poor children that need Cleft lip and cleft palate surgery. But then, grilling pinki with prolonged stupid unnecessary questions was so unnecessary. I mean, she is a lil girl, ask her a couple of questions and let her go , will ya? Why grill a lil kid just coz you as a reporter want to fill up television airing time by stretching a five min interview to an hour long interview.
